Our Atlantic Red with 100 years of tradition

The Moraima Family

We are the Moraima Family: 11 viticulturists who decided to join our vineyards, some of which have centenarian vines, to make our own distinctive wines. Being a cooperative means that we can all actively participate in the entire process, from cultivating the vines through to the wine leaving the bodega.

At the moment, our board is composed of Salomé Cancela (President), Javier Cancela (Vice-president) and José Bermúdez (Secretary). José Benito García acts as controller. The other members are José Manuel López, Manuel Fontán, Roberto Rivas, Diego Rubianes, Jaime Sartal, Rubén López and Elena García.

Vineyards:

  • Small plots of low-yield, old, pre-phylloxera vines.
  • Variety of late pruning and delicate, traditional in the area.
  • Pergola-trained vines.
  • Traditional late pruning and integral cultivation using many techniques characteristic of the zone.

Vinification:

  • Late harvest at the moment of optimal ripeness in 15 kg crates and selection of bunches at the vineyard..
  • De-stemming and incubation to ferment for 15 days in the traditional manner with the natural yeasts from the grapes.
  • Ageing and maturing in oak barrels.
  • Resting in steel tanks.
  • Bottled without filtering to allow in-bottle ageing.

Pairing:

  • Cured cheeses
  • Game
  • Red and white meats
  • Oily fish

Tasting Notes:

Complex, with strong aromatic intensity and a notable Atlantic character. Forest fruits stand out over liquorice and toasted notes with a finish of balsams over minerals and saltiness. On the palate, meaty attack with good acidity which provides freshness. Silky with strong structure and balanced in the mouth. Persistent finish with hints of fruit and dairy.
