Monte Pío is a white wine made by the Casa Monte Pío Winery in Ribadumia (Pontevedra), D.O. Rías Baixas.
Bodegas Casa Monte Pío is a family winery established in 1979 in Ribadumia, (Val do Salnés), with the intention of capturing the tradition of many generations in its wines while maintaining activity in the vineyard.
The vineyard of Bodegas Casa Monte Pío is made up of small plots, typical of the Galician smallholdings. With an average age of 25 years, the vineyard is located in the heart of the Val do Salnés sub-area. The soils are with decomposing granite sands and the climate is humid oceanic with a hot summer, where the average annual temperature is one of the highest in Galicia, despite the abundant rainfall throughout the year.
To work the vineyard, they carry out an integrated production in which they make the most of the resources and natural production mechanisms that ensure sustainable agriculture in the long term.
Monte Pío is a wine made with Albariño from their own vineyards, located 60 meters above sea level, on sandy soils with great minerality.
The harvest is manual in 15kg boxes, once in the winery the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. The must obtained is settling by gravity. Fermentation is spontaneous in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Before being bottled, it is left to rest for 3 months with its fine lees.
